O.P. Sharma was born in 1937 in Agra.

He is India’s one of the most distinguished and best known photographic artist of International fame, who has many significant and original contributions in photography. He has been honored by many world known Photographic organizations, with their Honorary Membership and Fellowship etc from time to time. He is a  self taught, highly gifted

and esteemed pictorialist in the world today who has always tried to popularize true pictorialism and has also extensively promoted photography as a fine art.

 

O.P. Sharma is a perfectionist to the core and he has a sharp incisive vision and imagination to translate ideas and thoughts into superb pictures, which are highly aesthetic and technically par excellence. He has very few equals in India.

 

He is the person who mooted the idea of celebrating the World Photography Day. It was on his advice and his efforts that 19th August is celebrated as World Photography Day world over. He is better known as the Photography  GURU and enjoys the privilege of having his masterpieces preserved in the most sought after museums of Australia, Brazil, Germany, Russia, Norway, Switzerland, United States of America etc.

 

He is the only Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society of London, The Royal Society of Arts of London, Fellow of the Photographic Society of America, Honorary Fellow of IIPC, Hon Member of Japan International Photographic Federation in the capital.

 

Founded the roots of Modern Experimental Photography in India and is a pioneer in this field. Many of the present generation in India have been influenced by his fresh, creative and stimulating approach. His fame and name is a household one in India to teach photography. He has made black & white portraits of almost all the known poets,

writers and literary figures of the sixties and the seventies. Some of the Indian Presidents and Prime Ministers have

got their portraits made from him.  He also has to his credit the still photography shoots of movies like Shalimar,

Chhupa Rustam, Siddharth, Do bood Paani etc.

His books on photography have created a history in India and are always in great demand India and the neighboring countries amongst amateurs and professional. As an exhibitor in International and national exhibitions he has created

an astonishing record. He has won over 600 awards and has exhibited over 2500 pictures in International and national exhibitions in India and abroad. He is also the Founder Honorary General Secretary and Life Member of India International Photographic Council, the only International Photographic body in the entire eastern hemisphere with several thousand members. He served Modern School Barakhamba Road as Head of the Department of Photography

for over 35 years.
